Richard “Dick” Neil Taylor, 77, of Red Wing, died Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems – St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.
He was born February 11, 1948 in Plum City, Wis. to Neil and Phyllis Taylor. He grew up in the area and graduated from Ellsworth High School. The enlisted in the U.S. Air Forces and served until his honorable discharge in 1977. He met Cathy Lynn Klatt and the couple was united in marriage on June 15, 1974 at St. Joseph’s in Menomonie, Wis. Together they raised one daughter, Sharon.
Dick and Cathy made their home in Bay City where they lived until 1997 when they moved to Red Wing. They were members of St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth and later, the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. Dick worked at the S. B. Foot Tannery, retiring on his 65th birthday.
Dick was passionate about camping and fishing. The only thing he might have loved more was his Green Bay Packers. He and Cathy took many trips to the lake in their camper, but they never missed a Packer game. He also enjoyed going on long drives. He didn’t need to have a destination, figuring out where he was going was half the adventure. Dick was an easy going, personable guy. He was always fascinated by new people and new things. He made friends easily and went out of his way to lend a hand. Dick always saw the best in everyone. His positive spirit will be missed by many.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Taylor of Red Wing; 6 siblings, Theresa Bransted of New Richmond, Jim (Deb) Taylor of Hager City, Yvonne (Fred) Benson of River Falls, Lynn Taylor of Amery, Elaine Auchampauch of Red Wing and Susan (Mark) Colbeth of River Falls; and his sister-in-law, Irene Downy Klatt.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Cathy; his parents, and his in-laws.
