Rita Lynn Schladweiler, 71, of Hager City, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems, St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
She was born July 31, 1953, in Red Wing, Minn. to Gilbert and Eileen (Albarado) Johnson. She attended Ellsworth High School and continued her education by attending the Vocational Technical College in Red Wing, earning a certification to be a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant.) She married Hubert “Butch” Schladweiler in River Falls on October 21, 1975, and the couple made their home in Hager City where they raised their family. She was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Red Wing.
While taking night classes for her CNA certification, she also worked at Riedell Skates and raised her three sons. She worked at several nursing homes in the Red Wing area touching the lives of many, while caring and comforting Alzheimer’s patients. Additionally, she worked part time by cleaning homes and baby-sitting for neighbor families.
Rita loved the Green Bay Packers. She occasionally rooted for the Pittsburg Stealers because she believed Ben Roethlisberger looked like her son Phil. Although Phill doesn't see it. Regardless, she was truly loyal to the green and gold. She enjoyed art, loved to draw, and crocheted blankets and other items for her grandchildren. She loved to use her artistic talents and playful sense of humor to make award winning Halloween customs for her son Eric. Second only to the love for her family, was her love for fishing. A passion she enjoyed sharing with her sons and grandchildren.
Rita was a supportive and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She made her children and grandchildren believe they could do anything that they put their minds to. She was incredibly selfless and generous with her time and talents. She loved laughing with family and friends, being the heart and soul of any gathering, a quality continued by her son Jason. While she loved bringing joy to others, she was happiest when she was with her family.
Her humbleness and affection for others will be missed by many, including her husband, Hubert “Butch”; three sons, Jason “Nelly”, Eric “Neal” and Phillip “Flip” (Lyandra) Schladweiler; four grandchildren, Brett, Brayden, Croix, and Dani; two sisters, Lola (Sam) Heckman and Julie (David) Rice; niece and nephew, Acacia (Josh) Lowry, and Matt (Melinda) Smith; as well as other family and many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Eileen Johnson, her much loved brother-in-law, Sam Heckman, and her in-laws, Nona and Arnold Schladweiler.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing with Cathy Zinn officiating.
