Robert "Bob" Gudknecht

Robert Duane Gudknecht, 84, of Wanamingo, died Friday, December 5, 2025, at Mayo Health Systems – Red Wing Campus, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 14, 1941, in Red Wing to Herman and Gena (Thompson) Gudknecht. He graduated in 1960, from Wanamingo High School and then served in the US Army Reserve for several years. On October 11, 1969, he was united in marriage to Therine Youngkrantz. They were blessed with two children, Brian and Tricia. For many years Bob was self-employed as a carpenter. Following his retirement, he worked at Sema Equipment and then Midwest Machinery for 20 years on a part time basis in various roles. Bob was a member of Wanamingo Lutheran Church and a dedicated 56-year member of the Wanamingo Fire Department. Bob raised many horses over the years, which he enjoyed, whether it was riding, driving or showing them. He and his family enjoyed showing the Norwegian Fjord horses for over 30 years at the county fair in Blue Earth.

He is survived by his loving wife, Therine of 56 years; one son, Brian (Holli) Gudknecht of Wanamingo; one daughter, Tricia (Jason) Bauer of Wanamingo; six grandchildren, Kyle Simonson, Jami (Brian) Tix, Erin (Parker) Erickson, Riley Bauer, Brady Bauer and Hanna Gudknecht and one great granddaughter, Eleanor Erickson. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2025, at Wanamingo Lutheran Church with Reverend David Sorenson officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota. Memorials are preferred to Wanamingo Fire Relief Association.
