Robert Hendel

Robert “Bob” C. Hendel, 89, of Red Wing, died peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Elysian Senior Homes of Lake City, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on May 1, 1935, in Red Wing to Frederick and Luella (Frederickson) Hendel.   He grew up and attended school in Red Wing graduating in 1954 from Red Wing High School.  Bob enlisted in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served from November 1954 to November 1957, when he was honorably discharged.  On September 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Arlene Weberg and they had three children, Tim, Jeff and Amy.  They lived in St. Paul where Bob worked for the State of Minnesota from 1958 to 1964.   In 1964, they moved to Red Wing where he began working for the Goodhue County Auditor’s office, retiring in 1992.  Bob was a member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing.  He enjoyed playing euchre, 500, cribbage, horseshoes, bowling and golfing.   He cherished the time he spent outdoors gardening and tending to his flowers, but most of all being with his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his three children, Tim (Cindy) Hendel of Bonita Springs, FL, Jeff Hendel of Red Wing and Amy (Wayne) Sexson of Red Wing; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Nancy (Curt) Smith of Hastings along with many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene on January 2, 2005; his parents and one sister, Joanne Hemmah.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m.  Thursday, June 13, 2024 at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Quinlan Koch officiating.  Burial will be at the Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.  Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or St. Croix Hospice.   Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.

The family would like to thank St. Crois Hospice and Elysian Assisted Living for all the staff that cared for our dad.  Thank you also to the residents at Elysian who befriended our dad and gave him a smile, a pat on the back or took time to talk with him and sometimes include him in a card game.  Your kindness will always be remembered.  1Thessalonians 4:16-18 and John 6:39-40.
