Robert C. Stroupe, 92, of Bay City, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus, in Rochester.
He was born September 30, 1932, in Red Wing, to Floyd and Elizabeth (Stumpf) Stroupe. Bob had a love for fishing and the river, which may have begun when he was just an infant, as his family lived on a houseboat on the Cannon River. Growing up in Red Wing, as a young man, Bob held a paper route, and could still to this day remember all the names and houses of the families he delivered to.
After graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1950, he enlisted in the US Navy and served until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Jeanette Anderson on April 14, 1956 and they lived in St. Paul a short time before returning to the area, eventually making Bay City their home. Bob worked for Sperry Univac for 27 years and had been involved with the NASA Space Program, helping to build the first guidance system on Mars, which is still there to this day. He later worked in maintenance for the Red Wing School Systems and worked at Super Value in Red Wing.
Bob took great pride in his patriotism and had been a life-long member of the Bay City American Legion Post 357, the Red Wing VFW Post 1218 and he served on the Bay City Legion Honor Guard for 68 years. He was also a part of the Boy Scouts Organization for over 70 years and was involved with the Boy Scouts Pack & Troop 3 of Bay City. He was a 60 year member of the Red Men Club, a former member of Bay City Methodist Church, a current member of First United Methodist Church in Red Wing as well as the Bay City Community Club, Red Wing Bowling leagues and the Wildlife League.
Fishing was one of Bob’s favorite pastimes and he became well-known for repairing fishing rods and reels, many of which after fixing, he would donate to kids so they could enjoy the sport of fishing. In addition, he would often make sinkers and jigs, always keeping busy. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s activities throughout the years and especially liked taking them fishing.
Bob and Jeanette celebrated 69 years of marriage this past April, and the two were often inseparable, whether it was playing their weekly Bingo games, Euchre games or trips to the casino, they were out having fun together.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Bay City; daughter, Cindy (Tom) Erickson of Northfield and son, Scott (LuAnn) Stroupe of Oak Grove, MN; grandchildren, Dean and Devin Erickson, Anna Stroupe and Emma (Dylan)Wilson; brand-new great-granddaughter, Isla Wilson; brother, Richard Stroupe of Port Angeles, WA, sister, Marion Johnson of Hampton and many other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
