Rodney Eggenberger

Rodney Eggenberger, 92, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Lake City Care Center.

Rodney was born July 22, 1931, in Lake City, Minnesota to John “Jack” & Lillian (Burfeind) Eggenberger. Rodney grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School. He later enlisted in the Air Force. He was discharged in 1955 in San Antonio, TX. Rodney married LaVonne Yotter on December 3, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City. 

Rodney was a member of the American Legion Post 110 in Lake City and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Rodney worked as foreman at Di-Acro before he and his brother Iver became owner-operators of a painting business for many years in Lake City. Rodney enjoyed playing basketball, football and softball which all translated into his becoming Minnesota’s biggest sports fan. Whether it was the Lake City Tigers, Gophers, Vikings, or the Twins he enjoyed watching all the games. Rodney was an avid bowler and held the Lake City high bowling series.  Some of Rodney’s favorite past times included relaxing out on his screen porch where he enjoyed a cup of coffee, watching the birds, and watching his garden grow. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, granddaughters, and great grandchildren. He loved to play cards, cribbage, and bean bags. He liked to sit on the boat and fish or be a spectator at his family’s events. Rodney was the expert in doing good and has left a piece of himself in every hug.

Rodney is survived by his wife LaVonne; son, Thomas (Cheryl) Eggenberger of Circle Pines, MN; daughter, Gayle (Robert) Waedekin of Holmen, WI; 3 granddaughters, Rachel (Joe) Warpeha, Laura (Michael) Woodward, Jacquelyn (Alex) Schafer; 4 great grandchildren, Frank, Isabelle, Miller, and Monroe.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents; his infant sister, Ardis Eggenberger; brothers, Dallas, Harley, Darrell, Arvid, Iver and Virgil; father and mother-in-law Leslie and Alice Yotter.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Nathan Cordes officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion post 110 and VFW Post 8729.
