Rodney D. Teachout, 92, of Red Wing, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026 at his home at Deer Crest Senior Living. He was born July 12, 1933 in Seattle, Washington to Harold and Marjorie (Moore) Teachout. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1951.
He went on to attend Drake University in Des Moines where he was active in the Alpha Tau Omega and Alpha Kappa Psi fraternities. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was a Drake track manager and served on the Awards and Trophies Committee for the Drake Relays for more than 40 years.
After graduating from Drake, he began his career in 1955 at Travelers Insurance Company where he worked for 38 years until his retirement.
While working in St. Paul, he met Kathleen Klaurens and the couple was married in 1961. Together they raised two children while living in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa before they were transferred back to the Twin Cities in 1988.
Rodney enjoyed spending time with his family and taking fishing trips up north with his friends. His grandkids also have great memories of fishing with grandpa. He liked to tinker with things and was always engineering little inventions to make a job easier. In his younger years, he was an active Freemason and a member of El Kahir Shriners. He had a wonderful sense of humor which will be missed by many. Whenever someone said they were glad to see him, Rodney always replied, “It’s good to be seen!”
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen; and his parents.
He is survived by his two children, son, Stephen (Stephanie) Teachout and daughter, Marjorie (Tim) Dye; five grandchildren, Avery Teachout, Jon, Alex and Nick Dye, and Kate (Ryan) Dinndorf.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Deer Crest Senior Living and Brighton Hospice for their dedicated care and thoughtful attention to Rodney throughout his final years.
A private family burial will be held at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis in the spring. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
