Ronald "Ron" Alex Huppert, 74, of Red Wing, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 20, 2024 in Red Wing.
Ron was born on April 3, 1950 to Alex and Lorraine (Duden) Huppert in Red Wing, Minnesota. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1969. Ron was drafted into the Army and served from 1970 to 1971. He then served in the Army Reserves until 1976. He went on to Winona Technical College for auto body collision repair for two years.
Ron met his future wife, Jill Welt, in 1972 and they were united in marriage on September 28, 1974 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing. They made their home in Cannon Falls where Ron worked at Dabelow Pontiac. He then worked in Bloomington for Teigen Auto Body. Ron and Jill then moved to Red Wing where he worked for Albers Auto Body. They moved to Frontenac where Ron started Frontenac Auto in his three-car garage. In 1981 they returned to Red Wing and started Huppert's Auto Body which Ron owned and operated at the time of his passing.
Ron was a caring, loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He always had a smile and was willing to help anyone who needed it. Ron loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports and other school activities. He had a passion for his Harley motorcycle and riding with the Tuesday Night Cycle Group. Ron also enjoyed his 72 Chevelle, 79 El Camino, watching NASCAR, going to a race, NHRA races in Brainerd, local car shows, and the Barrett Jackson car show and auction in Arizona. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as a mass coordinator. Ron was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Frontenac Sportsmen Club, Red Wing Elks, and Ducks Unlimited. In his free time, Ron liked watching the Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, MN Wild, and car restoration shows. He also enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Florida, and Jamaica.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Jill; daughter, Tara Huppert; son, Jason Huppert; grandchildren, Taylor, Aaliyah, and Brantley; his brothers, Robert (Kathryn Roberts) Huppert of Wasilla, Alaska, Roger (Carrie) Huppert of Nashville, Tennessee, Richard (Sharon) Huppert of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Rodney (Gina) Huppert of Red Wing; his sisters, Sharon (Peter Helgeson) Lorraine of Vadnais Heights, Sheryl Paton of Red Wing, and Sheila (Michael) Goering of Frontenac; sister-in-law, Linda Welt of Edina and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Lorraine; his grandparents; his infant brother, John; and infant twin granddaughters, Sophie and Emma.
Ron will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Resurrection for Ron will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and one hour prior to the service at church. A gathering at Mississippi National Golf Links will follow the service.
