Ronald “Ron” Duaine Nelson, 70, of Zumbrota, passed away at home on November 7, 2025. He was born to Kenneth and Ramona (Berg) Nelson in Rochester, Minnesota on August 24, 1955. After high school, Ron attended Rochester Area Vocational Technical Institute and received a degree in accounting. He worked in quality control for the AMPI company for many years. After retiring from AMPI, Ron drove trucks for various farmers and grain companies. Ron’s true passion was bowling. He organized teams to compete in state tournaments, served as secretary for several bowling leagues, and even volunteered to drive to national tournaments—hauling other bowlers’ bags so they wouldn’t have to pay extra baggage fees when flying. Ron has at least five 300 games and two 800 series. Aside from bowling, Ron enjoyed going to stock car races on dirt in Kasson and Spring Valley.
Ron is survived by his siblings Rozana (Roger) Roeder of Stewartville, Donald Nelson, Gene (Deb) Nelson, Kevin (Tara) Nelson, all of Rochester, and Valerie Jorgensen (Augie Padilla) of Faribault; honorary sister, Cindy (Bruce) Thompson of Minneapolis; his cherished goddaughter Allison Bjugan of East Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and cousins.
A funeral service for Ron will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with a visitation one hour prior. Following the ceremony, Ron will be buried in Lands Lutheran Cemetery.
