Ruth Marian Hockman

Graveside services for Ruth Hockman will be held Saturday May 19, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Ames Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Hockman, 86, of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of Ames, Iowa, died Tuesday March 13, 2012 at the skilled care unit of Madonna Towers in Rochester.
Ruth Marian Buechler was born January 31, 1926 in Boone, Iowa. She was the daughter of Vern and Josephine (nee Landles) Buechler. Raised in Boone, she was a graduate of Boone High School. On December 19, 1946 she married Bill Hockman in Boone. The couple resided in Ames from 1946 until 2009, where Ruth was a homemaker and Bill was a painter in the family business, Roy Hockman and Son, until 1962. He then worked for many years in the maintenance department of Iowa State University. Ruth was a member of the Masonic Lodge Auxiliary in Ames.
Ruth was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and undeniable spirit. She will be missed but never forgotten.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Hockman, of Rochester; a daughter, Elaine (John) Cummings, also of Rochester; two sons, David (Michele) Hockman of Olathe, Kansas, and Kurt (Monica) Hockman of Lincoln, Nebraska; and three granddaughters, Katie Cummings, Jessica Cummings, and Marissa Hockman.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Jane Kennedy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Department of Alzheimer's Research, the American Diabetes Association, or the American Cancer Society.
