Sandra Jean Grettenberg

Sandra Jean Grettenberg, aged 84 of Lake City, MN, passed away Saturday, January 13th at Deer Crest Senior Living in Red Wing, MN. She was born August 4th, 1939, in Grand Rapids, MI to Virginia and Richard Meyering. Sandy was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 63 years, Joel Grettenberg, her children; Jeffrey Grettenberg of Prescott, WI; Kelly Fern (Brad) of Minneapolis; Teresa Grettenberg of Arlington, VA; and her sister Mary Hahn of Belen, NM. Sandy leaves behind four grandchildren, Sara Sherwood, Cecilia Fern, Max Fern, and Nicholas Barth; and three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Brooklyn, and William Sherwood. Sandy is preceded in death by her daughter Kari Lee Grettenberg.

Sandy married Joel August 13, 1960, in Coon Rapids, IA and moved to Rochester to start her family. She earned a college degree from Winona State University and became an early-education teacher. Sandy was active in her church and community. She was a gifted seamstress and artistic maker of crafts. She could take an old piece of furniture and turn it into a work of art.   Sandy and Joel spent their retirement years active in their church, spending time with their grandchildren, and traveling the globe.

The world is a better place because you lived, Sandy. We love you and miss you very much.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 11 am at the Redeeming Grace Community Church in Lake City with Pastor Phillip Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. The service can be viewed on Facebook at youtube.com at https://www.youtube.com/@redeeminggracecommunitychu3870 on the day of the funeral.
