Sandra Jean Miller, 87, of Red Wing, died Thursday, August 20, 2026 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Red Wing.
Sandy, as she preferred to be called, was born to Howard and Alice Mae (Betcher) Jacques in Red Wing, in what was once called, the Irish Row Houses.
She attended Washington School and graduated from Central High School, class of 1957. She often joked that while going to school she never left the block.
While still in school she worked for her parents at the Oriola Café. The Red Wing Fire Department resides there today. She worked there until her parents moved to the Panama Canal. Sandy then moved to St. Paul and worked at the Murphy Finance Company until 1960 when she married William Bach. Together they had three children.
Sandy worked for American Family Insurance and was the first woman usher at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. She also sang for Saturday night Mass.
She was also involved in offering communion to the housebound, volunteered with the Minnesota Correctional School, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and she and Bill were foster parents.
Sandy and Bill separated in 1979 when Sandy moved back to the cities. In 1986 she met Robert Miller. They were married in 1999 at the Little Log Cabin Church in Hastings and they made their home in Hopkins. In 2003 they moved back to Red Wing.
Sandy is survived by her children Robert Bach of Red Wing and Christine (Jeff) DeJoy of Coon Rapids; one sister, Barbara (Brian) Barkeim of Lewiston; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; one son, Allen Bach; and her parents.
One final request from Sandy - "Do something each day you can be proud of."
