Obituary

Sharon Springer, 87, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Elysian Senior Homes, in Lake City, MN.

Sharon was born on December 13, 1938, to Claude and Esther (Duden) Harrison in Lake City and grew up on the family dairy farm. Sharon married James Springer on October 26, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Sharon started her working career at Jack’s Café while in high school. After graduating from Lincoln High, she became a receptionist at Di-Acro Houdaille, where she worked for 25 years until its closing. Sharon then worked at Valley Craft as a receptionist for over 20 years. After retiring she visited new members of the community while working for the Welcome Wagon, volunteered at St. John’s Church School in the Roots to Wings program, sang in the church choir, and helped raise funds by selling ice cream over Water Ski Days weekend.

Growing up in the 50’s, Sharon loved dancing, especially with her husband, Jim. She and her friend Marcia Dallman (Frisell) loved riding horses as fast as possible all over Sugar Loaf Valley. She was a skilled rider, having survived the wild rides with Marcia. She and her husband, Jim, and their daughter, Shannon, along with many friends, including Maxine and Hitch Heitman and their daughters, would enjoy trail rides in the bluffs surrounding Lake City, as well as overnight trips to Whitewater State Park. An especially good time was had by Sharon, Jim, and the Heitmans on their trips to Paradise Ranch in Wyoming, where they rode the Big Horn mountains, camped, fished, and danced. Later, Sharon and Jim joined the Lake City Bit & Spur Saddle Club where they were busy with trail rides, parades, horse shows.

Sharon enjoyed traveling with Jim to visit relatives, such as her brother Chuck and his wife Alice in El Paso, TX and Jim’s brother, Darrell and his wife Vonnie, in California, and trips to Las Vegas. Later Sharon enjoyed trips to Disney World, New Orleans, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria with her daughter, Shannon. Fond memories of the Switzerland trip were visiting the castles in Bavaria, eating pistachios in bed while watching the Golden Girls, and ending up in the middle of some farmer’s beautiful golden field of rapeseed after getting a little lost on a road trip through the Swiss countryside.

Later in life Elysian became her home. There she and her daughter made new friends around the dinner table and rekindled friendships of others. The ladies at the dinner table were often the last to leave the dining room due to storytelling, much laughing, and singing of old songs.

Sharon was always game for anything, loved driving and riding fast, would laugh and make the best of the worst of times. She always found the silver lining. She’d also dig in and help wherever needed. Sharon was definitely a good egg.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Shannon Springer; her brother Chuck Harrison; sister-in-law, Alice Harrison.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; sister, Joan Harrison.
