Sonja Aaland peacefully entered her eternal home on Saturday, January 17, 2026, after years of dementia. She was born in Zumbrota on July 26, 1956, graduated from Zumbrota High School, and was a member of Lands Lutheran Church for many years. She moved to Red Wing in the 70's where she lived independently and worked at ProAct for over 40 years. Despite her challenges, Sonja lived life to the fullest. She loved animals, especially her cat, Lillie; and was a fierce Minnesota Vikings fan. Elvis Presley music and dancing were favorites. She was fun-loving and left an indelible mark on the many lives she touched.
Sonja was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Alfa (Cartford) Aaland of Zumbrota; brothers Arne and Duane of Zumbrota and sister Miriam Gould of Selma, CA. She is survived by her brothers Phil (Columbia, TN), Owen (Lorraine) of Zumbrota; Nathan (Linnea) in Rochester; and sister Eunice Halverson (Fenton MO) and many cousins.
She was deeply loved and will be missed by her family and friends. We give thanks to God for Sonja.
Memorial donations may be given to Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota in thankfulness for the loving care they provided for Sonja for the last few years. https://www.lssmn.org/get-involved/donate
