Steven Roy Blomquist, 73, of Red Wing, died Friday, March 10, 2023 at the V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born November 29, 1949 in Great Lakes, Illinois to James and Betty (Danielson) Blomquist. His father was in the Navy so Steve moved a lot as a child. He graduated from Adams Friendship High School and went on to join the Marines where he drove truck and ambulance while serving in Vietnam. He then went on to join the Navy where he worked in construction as a SeaBee in Puerto Rico until his honorable discharge in 1975. Shortly thereafter, while reluctantly at a disco with friends, he met a girl who also shared his distaste for disco. Years later, on August 11, 1979 he married her, Bonnie Bohman, and the couple would go on to have one daughter.
The family moved to Red Wing and Steve opened a mechanic shop in Hager City called Steve’s Volkswagen and Auto. He then went on to work for Dowco Valve. He and Bonnie attended Cornerstone Community Church until his health declined in recent years.
Steve loved to be outdoors, specifically on the river and in a fast boat. He did, however, slow down to hunt and fish. He was also a music lover with a large album collection. He especially enjoyed Rock and Roll and the Blues.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Stephanie (Jeff Schafer) Blomquist; brother, Mark (Kathy) Blomquist; sister, Christine (Bobby) Wilkins; and step-sister, Tori (Greg) Blomquist.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
