Steven & Jay Ottem

Steven Glenn Ottem: 5.17.60 – 9.25.24 and Jay Perry Ottem: 12.11.63 – 7.13.24

 The brothers were born to Glenn and Helen Ottem in Red Wing, MN, and lived in Red Wing their entire lives.

Steve married Carrie Nibbe in August of 1979. They later divorced. On October 5, 1979, Steve was involved in a motorcycle vs. vehicle accident and sustained a traumatic brain injury. He spent the rest of his years in a nursing home, starting at Bayview NRC (formerly Red Wing Health Center) from May 17, 1980 to June 10, 2024, when he was transferred to Benedictine Care Center due to Bayview closing. He passed peacefully on September 25, 2024.

Jay married Sue Anderson in 1985, and they later divorced. Jay worked at Red Wing Shoe Co. for 35 years and was offered early retirement in 2016. He spent his retired years with his beloved dog, Oscar, and hanging out with friends – speaking fondly of the “Friday Night Meetings.” He died suddenly and unexpectedly due to heart disease on July 13, 2024.

Both are survived by their sister, Deanna (Steve) Stellrecht, nieces Dr. Kaela (Gary Hiranandani) Stellrecht, Korbyne (Miles) Edstrom, Kamryn (Walker) Kennedy, and nephew Keaton (fiance’Anna), as well as great niece Lorayna Edstrom and great nephew Nyksen Edstrom. They were preceded in death by their parents.
