Susan Kay Kolberg, 78, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at the Lake City Care Center in Lake City.
She was born January 13 ,1948 in Red Wing to Burton and Margaret (Larson) Buck. She grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School, class of 1966. On December 15, 1967 she married Bruce Kolberg and the couple raised 6 children. They would later divorce but remained close friends. She was a dedicated homemaker while raising her children. She later worked many jobs but most enjoyed her time as a florist and the lead reginal designer for Rainbow Foods. She also loved her job as an administrative assistant for St. Croix Orthopedics.
In 1971, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a faithful member who served many callings within the church.
As a child she enjoyed being outdoors, climbing trees and ice skating with her friends. She kept that free spirit into adulthood. She never liked to sit still and was always eager to be out and about with friends and family.
Susan was a very creative person. She loved to make things and she was a talented artist and painter. She enjoyed entertaining and always found ways to make the holidays unique and special for her children and grandchildren.
She enjoyed traveling and was excited to experience new places and new foods. She traveled to China, Costa Rica, and Jamaca.
She was thoughtful and caring; always attentive to the needs of others. She always sent a card for every holiday and birthday to all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She made sure people knew they were loved. She was outgoing, had a great sense of humor, and loved meeting new people. She had many close friends and she treasured each and every friendship.
She is survived by her 6 children; Lisa (Bryan) Banks, Heather (Joe) Palmer, Nathan (Darlene) Kolberg, Samuel (Lori) Kolberg, Melanie (Garrett) Stetzer, and Hannah (Tony) Cassaro; 21 grandchildren; 6 grandchildren; sister, Julie (Bob) Strickland; nephew, Jason Strickland and niece, Angela Carroll; as well as many friends.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Buck; nephew, Jesse Strickland, and her parents.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, June 22, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
