Tyler Dean Boek, 33, of Red Wing, died unexpectedly on September 21, 2024. He and his twin sister, Annie, were born on January 2, 1991, in Chicago, Illinois, to Greg and Karen (Ivey) Boek. The family moved to Red Wing in 2000, where he grew up and attended school. While in high school, Tyler was active in theater and choir and also played football. He also enjoyed playing disc golf and snowboarding and had worked at Welch Village for several years. After graduating from high school in 2009, he enlisted in the US Navy in 2012 and was honorably discharged as an Aviation Support Equipment Technician (AE3) in 2015. He received his associates degree in diesel mechanics from UTI—Universal Technical Institute in Sacramento, California. During his time there he received multiple SOC, student of the course, awards for being top of his class. He worked as a diesel mechanic at Veerkamp Excavating Company in Cameron Park, California. He eventually returned to Minnesota, where he was employed as a ground’s keeper at the Red Wing Golf Course. Tyler was a Star Wars fan and he also had a vast collection of LP’s and license plates. For many years, Tyler battled with addiction, but has worked hard and was very diligent on his sobriety of almost 2 years, of which his family was very proud of. In death, Tyler was able to be a donor, giving back to others by healing and improving the quality of life for many in need.
He is survived by his daughter, Winter Ann (age 3); parents, Greg (Tricia) Boek and Karen Boek; twin sister, Annie Boek and siblings, Colby Boek and Alexa Boek. He was a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews, Sophia, Isabella, Gus, Amelia, Lilly and Jesse; paternal grandmother, Donna Greene and many aunts, uncles and cousins and all of his many friends that loved him like a brother.
A memorial service for Tyler will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Church, 491 Hwy. 19, Red Wing. Following the service, starting at 1 p.m., there will be a gathering at Colvill Park, pavilion number 5, in Red Wing. In lieu of flowers, donations will be given for his daughter, c/o his father, Greg Boek. An inurnment will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
