July 15, 1956 — May 1, 2025

Pine Island

Vickie Lynn Rutten, 68, of Pine Island, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, May 1, 2025. She was born July 15, 1956, in Perham, Minnesota, to George and Bernice (Blom) Jacobson. She grew up on a dairy farm in New York Mills and attended school in the area, graduating from New York Mills High School in 1974. She competed a degree in Human Services and obtained a Developemental  Disabilities Assistant Degree from Rochester Community and Technical College.  After graduating, she worked at DACs in Red Wing and the Perham area. On September 9, 1978, she married Paul Rutten. They lived in Mazeppa for a short time before they moved to Pine Island, where they bought a small farm and raised their family.

Vickie Lynn was a person who had the best intentions in everything that she did. She was a kind, compassionate woman who was great at bringing people together, not just physically but also emotionally. She was the type of person to light up the room. She loved to spend time with loved ones, travel, bake, be outdoors, bike, occasionally skinny dip and spend her evenings up at the cabin outside watching as the mesmerizing sun paved down the sky into a beautiful sunset. She made conversations with strangers, made the best buns for holiday meals, and loved to give out hugs. She was a hardworking full time Homemaker, Mother, Grandmother and Farmer, always juggling schedules and many projects.  She also served on the Goodhue County Health and Human Services Committee, worked at Arel’s Flowers and coached softball at Pine Island High School and Junior High School.

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 46 years, Paul Rutten; 4 children, including son, Jim (Kelly) Rutten and their children, Isaiah (Jaycee), Cooper, Chloe, and Hailey all of Pine Island; son, Joe (Adrienne) Rutten and their children, Emily, Ryan, Natalie, Scott, and Ben of Port Orange, FL; daughter, Tobi (Ryan) LeMahieu and their children Elsie and Max all of Eau Claire, WI and son, Adam (Jenny) Rutten and their children, Lucy, Lillie, Oliver, Aiden, Weston and Maci all of Pine Island; her siblings, Ron (Geri) Jacobson, Arlene (Terry) Scheidecker, Larry (Red) Jacobson all of New York Mills, MN, Julie (Ron) Doll of Perham; sister-in-law, LuAnn Jacobson of Sundance, WY and many more extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Paul Jacobson and sisters-in-law, Ginny Jacobson and Laura Jacobson.
