Wallace Paul Alvin Milow was born January 14, 1936 on the home farm in Wilbert, Minnesota to Rudolf and Malinda (Loeslin) Milow. He was baptized January 26, 1936 by Pastor E.H. Walther at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert. His sponsors were Paul Maschoff, Alvin Loeslin and Erna Milow.
Elementary schooling was at St. Paul's Parochial in rural Wilbert where he also was confirmed on April 10, 1949 by Pastor J.F. Malkow. Wally graduated from Ceylon High School in 1953 where he was a noted baseball player. After graduation Wally helped on the home farm and worked at the canning factory in Fairmont. In 1955 he was employed at the Birds Eye Frozen Food Storage.
In October 1957, Wally joined the army. He was stationed in Fort Carson, CO, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Benjamin Harrison, IN and Stuttgart, Germany where he worked as an office records clerk. During the field exercises, Wally drove a two and a half ton truck loaded with supplies for the maneuver.
In 1959 Wally attended college and joined the baseball league for the Ceylon Reds of Martin County. He was their "Ace" pitcher. Wally worked his way through college as a clerk for Thro's Drugstore and graduated from Mankato State University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in 1964.
Mr. Milow began his teaching career of business education classes at Beaver Creek, MN in 1964 and in Ellendale, MN from 1965-1969. In 1969, Mr. Milow joined the high school staff in Zumbrota, MN and taught there until his retirement in 1995. He taught Business Classes for a total of 31 years.
During the summer months Wally worked at a variety of jobs. He was employed at Hodgeman Road Construction, Zumco, helped with farm work for the Wendt and Anderson farms, summer janitorial job for Zumbrota High School and assisted with the Summer Recreational Programs in Zumbrota. After his retirement he drove van for the Rochester Express and Rochester Direct Companies until 2000. He was also employed with the Zumbrota Ford Dealership.
In September 1966, Wally married Nancy Widdel of Ringsted, Iowa. Their two sons are Jon and Scott. Nancy and Wally divorced in 1979. Wally enjoyed working on the lawn, reading, biking, country line dancing, field work and traveling. He also experienced a "dream-come-true" playing baseball with the Minnesota Twins Legends Pros at the Twins Fantasy Camp in Fort Myers, FL in 1996 and 1997.
On January 14, 2001 Wally married Barbara Biorn of Zumbrota in Maui, Hawaii. They took up residence in Zumbrota and are members of Christ Lutheran Church.
Mr. Milow has two sons Jon and Scott, both of Rochester, MN and a grandson, Mason Milow of Ohio. Five step-children, Craig (Bilan) Biorn of Sunny Isles Beach, FL, Twyla (Mark) Rickard of Buckeye, AZ, Tonja (Jim) McNamara of Pine Island, MN, Steven (Shannon) Biorn of Wanamingo, MN and Nolan (Cindy) Biorn of Zumbrota, MN. Step-grandchildren include, Virginia Mott, Dain Biorn, Tiffiney Biorn, Sagal Biorn, Zaki Biorn, Heather Hart, Jason McNamara, Christina (Jordan) Taylor, Timothy McNamara, Braxton (Rachel) McNamara, Jeremy McNamara, Liz Illg, Mitch Illg, Cory Guenzler and Shawn Guenzler. Step-great grandchildren: Jonas Rickard-Stadsvold, Alice Oconnor, Evelyn and Vivienne Taylor, Avery and Reed McNamara, Haley, Lainey and Nicole McNamara and Carson McNamara.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Roland and Ruth Milow, Sisters: Dolores and Chuck Draper; Darlene and Randy Buchan, Brother-in-law, Herb Krueger and Step-grandson Matthew Rickard.
Survived by sister Elaine Krueger of Fairmont, MN, Brother Jerry (Mary) Milow of Fairmont, MN and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Wally Milow would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the Pine Haven Nursing Home staff, Heartland Hospice staff and to Pastor Wayne Schoch of Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota.
Visitation will be held on April 7, 2022 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, MN from 5:00pm -8:00pm.
Funeral Service will take place April 8, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota at 11:00am with a visitation an hour prior beginning at 10:00am. Burial will take place at Zumbrota Cemetery at noon on April 8, 2022.
