Walter “Wally” Alfred Johnson, 83, of Red Wing, passed away on December 5, 2025. He was born in Red Wing to Alfed Johnson and Ingaborg Kjois on May, 24, 1942. He was later baptized and confirmed at Spring Garden Church in Cannon Falls. After graduating from high school, Wally went on to join the military. He proudly served in the Vietnam War as an Army Infantryman. He worked at the SB Foot Tanning Co. for many years. Wally met Lila Berg and the two married in 1971. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and taking his friends out on his boat, but he loved his cars the most. Wally & Lila spent a lot of time going to car shows with their old classic cars where they won several trophies. His Camero was his pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lila; siblings, Denny (Diane) Johnson and Marcene (Bill) Arendt; step-brother, Jerry Johnson; sibling-in-laws, Larry (Sue) Berg, Jeanne Berg, Donna (Ronnie) Amundson, Eileen Anderson, and Judy Grudem; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Lila’s parents, Melvin (Luella) Berg; brother Kenny Johnson; step-brothers and their wives, Clayton (Elaine) Johnson and Warren (Stella) Johnson; sibling-in-laws and their spouses, Yvonne (Jim) Hinsch, Duaine (Alice) Berg, Vernon Berg, Marlin (Maggie) Berg, Craig Grudem, Dick Andersofn, and Joan Johnson.
A memorial service for Wally will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 12 p.m. noon at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, led by Rev. David Krinke. Visitation will be held one hour prior. A family burial will take place at Spring Garden Cemetery in spring 2026.
Memorials are preferred to Lands Lutheran Church, or Spring Garden Church.
