He was born on July 15, 1944, in Red Wing, to Leo and Dorothy (Burdick) Theis. He married Nancy Welt on June 4, 1966, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. The couple made their home in Red Wing. Wayne worked at ADM in Red Wing, retiring after 43 years.
He enjoyed camping and fishing at Spencer Lake in Siren, Wisconsin, where he and his family went for 45 years. Aside from fishing, Wayne also enjoyed going to the casino and Las Vegas, and reading Western books—his collection consisted of over 1000 books. Wayne also loved traveling, whether it was taking his family on road trips to Colorado, Mount Rushmore or Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the list could go on and on. He also enjoyed cruising and took several with his family and extended family. He cruised to Alaska and took many cruises to the Caribbean, with St. Thomas being a favorite spot. His last cruise was through the Panama Canal, which had always been something he wanted to do.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Shelley Theis of Red Wing and son, Chad (Sandy Tomhave) of Maplewood, MN; siblings, Gary Theis and Marilyn Peterson both of Red Wing and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nancy; brother, Bruce Theis and his parents, Leo and Dorothy Theis.
Per Wayne’s request, a private family funeral service will be held at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing.
