William Webb, 85, passed away at his home in Lake City, MN surrounded by his family on January 11, 2023.
William was born on January 19, 1937 in Franklin County, Iowa to Edward & Bertha (Link) Webb. After graduating high school in Kansas City, Kansas, Bill received a full academic scholarship to the University of Kansas. During the summers he would work for Bell Helicopter in Texas. He was a Tau Beta Pi fraternity member and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Physics. He was extremely passionate about physics and other sciences. He started his own company, Energy Control Engineering, at age 32 until he retired.
He raised his family from 1967 to 1988 in Elk River, MN on beautiful Lake Orono where life-long fond memories were made. Bill married Suzanne Selleck on January 5, 1990 in Red Wing, MN. Their boating life began in Lake City in 1989. He and Suzanne moved to Lake City in 1993.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, tennis, camping and had a great love for boating. He and Suzanne sailed to the Bahamas many times and had multiple adventures in and around Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. He also had a love for travel. Remarkable trips include New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Virgin Islands. He was a member of the Rotary Club and Toastmasters. A motto that Bill lived by was “Be your own boss and follow your dreams”.
Bill is survived by his wife, Suzanne of Lake City, two daughters Beth (Lee Klusky) Etter of Prior Lake, MN, Jeanine (Dan) Backer of New Ulm, MN; 10 grandchildren, Elliot and Cole Backer, Hannah Eversman, Maizie, Jim and Casey Etter, Nick, Carly, Jack and Justin Selleck; and great granddaughter Falon Backer.
A family only funeral service will be held January 19, 2023 at 11:00am at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City with pastor Phil Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. A private visitation will be one hour before the service. On Line Condolences may be placed at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
