William (Bill) Hollman, 88, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2023 at his home in Lake City surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born April 28, 1934 to Henry and Delores (Anderson) Hollman in Durand, WI. His family moved to Lake City when he was 3 months old. While attending Lincoln High School in Lake City, Bill met the love of his life, Kathleen Schmidt. He graduated in 1953. Three days after graduation, he began working at Gillette and Eaten (later Gould and Federal Mogul) where he would retire 41 years later in 1994. Bill and Kathleen were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City in September of 1954.
Bill survived polio at a very young age and he spent his lifetime excelling at anything he put his mind to despite the challenges polio left him. He excelled in sports as a youth, especially as a record-setting baseball pitcher at the time in the Lake City area baseball leagues. His love of sports continued throughout his life, especially football season and any game involving Tom Brady.
An avid outdoorsman, Bill had many great memories of very successful deer, duck and pheasant hunting and fishing trips with his very good friends and family. On any given day, Bill could be seen biking around Lake City and the neighboring countryside, enjoying the great outdoors.
If you asked him his greatest accomplishment, his answer would always be his family. He enjoyed attending various events, supporting his children and grandchildren. Bill and Kathleen traveled together on amazing trips with favorites being the western United States, Alaska, and the Canadian Rockies. In his later years, he enjoyed reminiscing about their many trips they took while enjoying the beautiful view of Lake Pepin from his front porch.
Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathleen of Lake City. A son, Greg (Sal) Hollman of Madison, WI; two daughters, Gina (Bruce) Beckman of Middleton, WI and Heidi (Mike) Noll of Lake City. He was the proud Grandpa to 6 grandchildren: Britta (Alex) Schultz of Middleton, WI; Katie (Nik) Flahavan of Aurora, CO; Megan (Luke) Beckman-Sievers of Dane, WI; Nick Hollman of Arlington, VA; Michael Noll of Hudson, WI; and Mackenzie Noll of Red Wing, MN; and two great-grandsons, Jackson Schultz, Middleton, WI and Archie Flahavan of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by a brother, Roger (Kathy) Hollman of Lake City, MN, a sister, Wendy (Dave) Krohn of Kewadin, MI, and a brother-in-law Lorne McDonald of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jean McDonald.
