Winifred ?Winnie? Thomas, 84, of Red Wing and formerly of West St. Paul died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at her home. She was born on July 9, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Edwin and Ruth (Wilson) Webster. She graduated in 1939 from Kemper Hall in Kenosha, Wisconsin and on July 25, 1942 she married David Thomas in Milwaukee. For five months they lived in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. In 1943 they moved to Minneapolis until 1951 when moved to West St. Paul. In 1989 they moved to Red Wing. She was member of Christ Episcopal Church, Red Wing Country Club and the Southview Country Club in West St. Paul. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and American Field Services, which is the placing of Foreign exchange students. She enjoyed playing bridge and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband, David of Red Wing; four children, Mary Bourn of Reserve, New Mexico, Ruth Herring of San Francisco, California, Barbara Rakstad of St. Louis, Missouri and William Thomas of St. Paul, Minnesota; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and special close friends, Anne (Tor) Smestad of Oslo, Norway. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing with the Rev. Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
