Quilting 2

Betha J. Schlauderaff

April 3, 1924 ~ January 2, 2021 (age 96)

Obituary

Betha J. Schlauderaff, 96, died in the wake of Covid, Saturday, January 2, 2021, surrounded by her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; her parents, Carl and Betha Giffei; her sisters Marcia Howard and Carolyn Spencer; and her grandson, Daniel Schlauderaff.

Betha was from Iron Range roots, born in Chisholm, an avid and gifted artist, painter, hardanger embroiderer, an artistic quilter, rosemaler, needlepointer, knitter, an exquisite seamstress, a begrudging but excellent cook, a poet, family historian, a swimmer and sometime skinny dipper.

Betha was Polka Dancing Queen with King Clarence, a Cub Scout den mother, a Union organizer, PEO sister, a reluctant traveler, a Sunday school teacher, a lousy singer, an aspiring hermit, a bridge player, and an Iowa State homecoming queen.

Betha had an evolving political view, a Republican Precinct chairwoman, flipping to the left. She was a questioning wonderer, a seeker. She could smell pablum a mile away and would not abide to cheap theology nor easy answers to difficult situations. She was Mobile, Agile, but rarely Hostile.

Betha was a retire “Bishop” of Bay City, Wis. The Bible verse on her refrigerator was “Eat what is set before you.” (Luke 10:8) All her kids LOVE to cook! None of her kids are currently in jail. In her genetic wake are doctors, nurses, clergy and a scalawag (or two), perhaps a Saint.

Betha is survived by her children, Paul Schlauderaff, Nan Crary, Mark (Pam) Schlauderaff, Kristen (Larry Lindmark) Schlauderaff; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, as well as many, many friends who loved her so much.

A funeral service has been postponed until Spring.

Many, many thanks to the Staffs of Deer Crest and Mayo Hospice for the tender care Mom received. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the donor's favorite charity. If you wish to plant a tree in memory of Betha, she would have enjoyed a walnut tree.   Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
