Betty Arlis (Volding) Meyer

Due to the ongoing national pandemic, a memorial service for Betty Meyer will be scheduled for a date as yet to be determined. Burial at Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in Rochester will occur following the service. Mrs. Meyer, 91, died Friday September 11, 2020 at Samaritan Bethany Home on 8th in Rochester where she had resided the past three years.

Betty Arlis Volding was born July 22, 1929 in Crystal Lake, Iowa to Gerald and Hazel (McFarland) Volding. A graduate of Crystal Lake High School, she then attended college. While residing in Mason City, Iowa she met Alferd Meyer, and the couple married on June 22, 1952 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. Mr. Meyer was an employee of Hormel Foods, and from Mason City he was transferred to Rochester. For over 30 years, Betty was a bookkeeper for JC Penney in Rochester. A member of Peace United Church of Christ, she was a member of the church’s choir for 40 years. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Olmsted Medical Center Auxiliary, and she loved to bake.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Franceschi of San Antonio, Texas, and Lou Anne Meyer of Rochester; granddaughters, Rachel Franceschi of San Antonio, and Leanne Franceschi of Laguna Vista, Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Camille Telano of Laguna Vista. Also surviving are three brothers, Merle Volding of Denver, Colorado, Gary (Harriet) Volding of Shakopee, and Denny (Nancy) Volding of Dallas, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother and his wife, Theodore and Charlotte Arleen Volding; a sister and her husband, Doris and Ivan Nielsen; and a sister-in-law, Marian Volding.

The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to the staff at Samaritan Bethany Home on 8th for their commitment to providing tender loving care to Betty.
