Burton Fick

February 9, 1950 — August 12, 2017

Burton Henry Fick, 67, of Lake City, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester.

He was born on February 9, 1950 in Red Wing to Vernon and Genevieve (Young) Fick. He spent his school years growing up in Lake City after a short stint of living in Red Wing but ultimately attending and graduating from Lincoln High School. While in high school Burt loved to sing and act as in partaking in multiple musicals and loved his time in choir. He also excelled in many sports but loved playing football, basketball, and track and field, where he held multiple records for more than 30 years. Burt graduated from Lincoln High in 1968 and went on to attend Rochester Junior College where he played football. After two years of playing for the Yellow Jackets he was recruited to play football at the University of Miami. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1973 with a Bachelors in Education. During the summer of 1972 while home on summer break he met Jennifer Berg of Zumbrota who was teaching in Lake City. Months later on August 18th, 1972 he married Jenni before finishing up his schooling at Miami. Burt and Jenni will celebrate their 45th year of marriage this year.

After deciding not to pursue a career in football Burt moved back to Lake City where he lived the rest of his days. Burt took a job at the local foundry where he worked as a supervisor in various departments for 37 years. He and Jenni welcomed their first of three sons, Jacob in 1976, followed by Anthony in 1979 and they wrapped up the trifecta with Lucas in 1981. These three were his greatest pride and joy. While Burt also loved hunting, fishing, sports and spending time on the river; his true passion was his family and friends. Burt had and amazing way to connect with people and his giant heart, soft touch and towering stature will forever leave a fingerprint on everyone who met him.

Burt was an active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Lake City, where he loved to sing in the church choir, multiple weddings and various other events. He served as an elder with the church as well.

Burt is survived by his Wife Jenni, his children, Jacob (Michelle) Fick of Lakeville; Tony (Jill) Fick of Rochester; and Lucas (Kelly) Fick of Lake City; grandchildren Lauren Fick, Kolten Fick, Taylor Fick, Alyssa Fick, and Brody Fick; and sister Gwen Benson of Mason City.

Burt was proceeded in death by his parents Vern and Gen Fick and one brother in law J.O. (Gwen) Benson.
