Carmen E. Hinrichs, 83, of Hager City, died Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born June 1, 1936 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Ellsworth High School and went on to work at Brownie's Restaurant and Bay City Grocery. On September 30, 1960 she married Virgil Hinrichs and they made their home in Bay City. Together they raised three sons and later, purchased a hobby farm. Once her children were older, she started providing day-care out of her home. She loved her work and found a lot of joy in being a caregiver. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing where she sang in the choir, was member of the Merry Marthas quilting club, and helped organize the yearly Christmas Project for families in need. She loved her flower garden where she enjoyed watching the birds. She was a skilled homemaker and a talented baker and cook.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil "Butch" Hinrichs of Hager City; three sons, David (Trudy) of Prescott, Todd of Bay City, Blaine (Andrea) of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Richard, Jason (Joan), Nathan and Abbigail Hinrichs; great-grandson, Grayson; siblings, Dayton Wilkens of Inver Grove Heights, Jeanne (Arnie) Follstad of Red Wing, Bonita (Tim) Huppert of Hager City, Fred (Ruth) Wilkens of Ellsworth, Cal (Nola) Wilkens of Woodbury and Roxanne (Ed) Faulkner of Appleton, Wis.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Rochelle (Welt); step-father, Fred Wilkens and sister, Arlene LeBlanc.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Dane Petersen officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday July 23, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
