Carmen L. Metzler died November 13, 2013, three days before her 93rd birthday. She was born November 16, 1920 to J. Clifton and Susanna Anderson and grew up on a farm near Goodhue, Minn. After graduating from Cannon Falls High School she received her teaching degree from Winona State Teacher's College and taught in several local rural schools including Wastedo. When Joseph "Bay" Metzler returned from WWII in 1946 the couple married and settled in Red Wing for their entire lives. She worked as a bank teller for many years at First National Bank, now Wells Fargo. Carmen was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She and Bay volunteered for a variety of local organizations.
She is survived by daughter, Monica (Ed) Cook of St. Paul and their children, Alexander and Adrian; son-in-law, Tom Enebak of Taylor Falls and his children, Maja and Cully; brother, John Anderson of Billings, Mont.; sister-in-law, Helen Lillyblad of Red Wing; Fenn Cournoyer and family; great grandchildren, Devin, Amelia, Avery and Jackson as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bay and one daughter, Suzanne. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the kind and compassionate staff at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Scott officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church.
