Curtis H. Lichtblau, 70, of Lake City, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He was born April 20, 1950, in Lake City, to Herman and Mildred (Haglund) Lichtblau. In 1968 he graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City. He was united in marriage to Linda Ecklund on Sept. 15, 1972. They lived in the area until 1984, when they moved to Locke Mills, Maine for his job. He worked as a contractor for phone companies throughout the U.S. and was responsible for removing the last crank telephone, which is now prominently displayed at the Smithsonian Museum with his name next to it. He and his family returned to Lake City in 1988 and he later became employed by Treasure Island Casino doing carpentry and maintenance work until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed helping out at his friend's hobby farms and especially loved caring for the animals. He also enjoyed tinkering with and repairing old tractors. He was a member of United Methodist Church.
He is survived by 3 children, Damon (Carrie) Lichtblau, Kandace Lichtblau-Schierts and Meggan (Rick) Evans all of Lake City; 9 grandchildren, Naoto and Colette Lichtblau-Tepley; Aerith, John and Sean Schierts, Elias, Caleb and Abigail Lichtblau and Gwen Evans; 6 siblings, Charles (Val) of Oakhurst, FL, Eugene (Betty)of Red Wing, Leonard (Carmen), Bonnie (Marv) Glad of Welch, Rita Porter of Annandale and Mary (Doug) Klatt of Kenyon; his mother, Millie of Kenyon; mother-in-law, Evie Ecklund of Lake City and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman; sister, Sharon Lichtblau; granddaughter, Beatrix and his wife, Linda in 2017.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2020 at United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson Peterson Chapel and for one hour prior to the service.
