Dianne Sommerfield, 81, of Mazeppa, passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning, November 15, 2023 at the Zumbrota Care Center. She was born on September 11, 1942 in Millville, Minnesota. She grew up in the Millville area and went to St. Felix and Elgin Schools. On April 8, 1961 she married Willmar Sommerfield, he passed away March 10, 2012. They first lived near Potsdam where they farmed until 1969. They then moved to Mazeppa where she was employed at Zero King Coat Factory in Lake City until 1976 when they moved to Great Falls, Montana from 1976 to 1981. Dianne worked for the Great Falls School District in dietary services, while raising her family. They moved back to Mazeppa where she worked at Olmsted Medical Center until her retirement.
Dianne loved to bake for the holidays. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and having friends and family over for meals, where there was always a pot of coffee on. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to travel with her Uncle Sylvester and his wife Betty. The four of them explored a number of states and especially loved Hawaii. Most of all, Dianne will be remembered for living for her family, and spending as much time as she could with them.
Dianne was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Mazeppa. She was also a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
Dianne is survived by her sons, Kevin Sommerfield (Terry Madigan) of South Pasadena, CA and Jeff (Marla Kay) Sommerfield of Mazeppa, MN; daughter, Wanda Voeltz of Pine Island, MN; four grandchildren, Nicole Voeltz, Kelsey Ronningen, Kaitlyn (Justin) DeLong, and Alyssa Sommerfield; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Voeltz, Brody Voeltz and Logan DeLong; and a sister, Kimm Olson.
The family wishes to thank all of the nurses and care staff at the Zumbrota Care Center for all of the special loving care that Dianne has received since making it her home.
The funeral service for Dianne Sommerfield will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Friends and family may visit two hours prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial at Mazeppa Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
