Douglas Gary Hindal, 61, of Zumbrota, died Monday, August 2, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born March 1, 1960 to Gary and Charlotte (Johnson) Hindal in Rochester, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm in the Zumbrota area and attended school in Pine Island, graduating from Pine Island High School in 1978. After school he went to work at IBM for 25 years. He then went on to work for Fairway Outdoor Advertising for nearly 10 years. Doug was also proud of his work as a volunteer fireman in Mantorville for 12 years. In 1984 he married Trish Morrow and together the couple raised two sons.

Doug was fondly known as “Jerky Doug” because of skill in the smokehouse. He and his sons participated in numerous BBQ competitions under the name Blue Smoke Barbeque. Doug was a handy guy who knew a little bit about everything and he loved to teach others what he knew.  He was an outdoorsman who like to spend his time hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time at Deer Creek watching the stock car races. He loved riding his Harley and getting together with his friends at the VFW.

He will be missed by many, including his mother; Charlotte Hindal of Zumbrota; sons, Jarad (Heather) Hindal of Rochester and Bronson (Heather) Hindal of Kasson; two granddaughters, Everly and Charlotte and one more on the way; sister, Sharon (Dean) Pagel of Mazeppa; mother of his children; Trish of Mantorville; close family friends, Kristin, Matt and Melissa; as well as nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gary; two sisters, Suzanne and Traci; fiancée, Susan Harteneck.
