Edward L. Harms

Edward Lewis Harms, 93, of Red Wing and formerly of Harmony, MN, died Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his home at Deer Crest. He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Isle, MN to Arthur and Bertha (Munkelwitz) Harms. He grew up on the family farm in Isle and graduated from Isle High School. In 1946, he enlisted in the US Army and served until he was honorably discharged. Following the service, he enrolled in the University of MN and received a degree in Agriculture and was recruited to work at the high school in Harmony, where he taught agriculture and later became a guidance counselor. On July 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Donna Burtness, and they lived in Harmony. In 1979, Ed changed careers, and became an insurance agent with AAL until his retirement in 1990. He and Donna moved to Red Wing in 2008. He was a member of Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony and United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Throughout his life, Ed had a great love of hunting and fishing and was able to hunt his last wild turkey at the age of 88.
He is survived by 3 children Gretchen (David) Anderson of Red Wing, Greg Harms of Brainerd and Steve (Sheri) Harms of Gilbert; grandchildren, Nick (Katie), Brooke and Samantha Harms and Ingrid and Kristen Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, in 2015 and his siblings, Dick, Arthur Jr., Verne and Helen Harms.
A family service for Ed will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
