May 25, 1931 — May 28, 2022

Red Wing

Gerald “Jerry” Norman Lein, 91, of Red Wing Minnesota died Saturday May 28, 2022 at The Terrace of Cannon Falls. Jerry was born on May 25, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to James and Garland [Harvey] Rinker. His father passed away when he was five years old. His mother married Haldor Lein in 1939. Haldor adopted Jerry and his sister Virginia and moved the family to Minnesota. Jerry graduated from Montevideo High School in 1949. While in school, he met Beverley Larson. They were united in marriage in March of 1950 at Watertown, South Dakota. They were blessed with five children.

From 1953 to 1964 Jerry farmed in West Central Minnesota. In 1964 he became an insurance agent working for State Farm Insurance, first in Minneota and then in Sherburn, Minnesota. Working for State Farm gave Jerry and Beverley the opportunity to travel the United States and many foreign countries. Jerry also fulfilled his childhood dream of obtaining his private pilot license. He retired in 1996. Jerry and Beverley then began spending winters in Arizona and summers at Nevis, Minnesota. They moved to Red Wing, Minnesota in 2017 to be closer to family.

Jerry enjoyed hunting in western states, fishing, reading, playing cards, listening to old time music, road trips off the beaten path, and spending time with his family. The family recalls his work ethic, his love of farming, and his strong faith. He served as a Deacon at St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis and First Lutheran Church in Red Wing.

Jerry and Beverley shared 72 years of marriage. He is also survived by five children, Sharon Lein [Darvin Mischke] of Rogers, MN, Michael (Marcie) Lein of Norwood Young America, MN, Steven (Cynthia) Lein of Bloomington, MN, Jim (Jane) Lein of Evergreen, CO and Peggy (Scott) Crownhart of Red Wing, MN: eleven grandchildren, Brant (Shirley) Mischke, Michael (Becka) Mischke, Mark (Andrea) Mischke, Benjamin (Secia) Mischke, Andrew (Stephanie) Lein, Stephan (Amanda Marlow) Lein, Cody Lein, Kaitlyn Lein, Matthew Lein, Reeanna Crownhart and Mitchell Crownhart: 13 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
