Herbert August Albert Schrimpf, 89, of Goodhue, died Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 16, 1923 in Red Wing to Otto and Isabelle (Hoyer) Schrimpf. He attended school in Hay Creek and later attended Agricultural School. He was drafted into the US Army and served until he was honorably discharged. On January 1, 1947, he married Martha Thimijan. They began farming and eventually bought their family farm in Goodhue Township. Martha died in 1995. Herbert farmed until 1998, but still stayed busy throughout the years, having worked at the Red Wing Hospital, Treasure Island, drove for Rochester Express, delivered flowers for Garden Paradise and also worked for the Rehoboth Disabled and Elderly Care in Rochester and Oronoco. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he had served as an elder and also was on the cemetery board. He used to love going for drives to visit friends and neighbors and he always enjoyed a good card game of 500, euchre, pinochle or cribbage.
He is survived by 6 children, Judith (Dallas) Buck of Bay City, WI, Gloria (Douglas) Agenten of Goodhue, Armin (Deann) Schrimpf of Oronoco, Arlene Banitt of Rochester, JoAnne Ryan of Goodhue and Susan (Paul) Kyllo of Byron; 31 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; twin brothers, Ralph (Lois) Schrimpf and Robert (Delores) Schrimpf both of Lake City; 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Schrimpf of Goodhue and Yvonne Thimijan of Red Wing and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; an infant brother; sister, Mae Steffenhagen; brother, Edwin Schrimpf and a great-granddaughter, Katherine Rose Ryan.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue with Reverend Andrew Krause officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
