James Allen Badker, 85, of Red Wing, died Friday, May 12, 2023, at his home at Deer Crest Senior Living in Red Wing, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 18, 1937, in Milbank South Dakota to John and Pearl (Conrad) Badker. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1956, and the served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1959. On July 16, 1960, he was united in marriage to his childhood sweet heart, Shirley Hanisch and they were blessed with three children, Julie, Kammy and Peter. They moved to Red Wing in 1975, where he continued to work for NSP retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Befriender for the Minnesota Correctional Facility. Jim liked to bow hunt, fish, camp with his son Pete and travel, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his three children, Julie (Jon) Sell, Kammy (Bruce) Plein and Peter (Jill) Badker all of Red Wing; six grandchildren, Jeremy Sell, Jennifer (Derrick) Cox, Katie (Dan) Kelly, Brooke (Brent) Olson, Shelby (Micah) Wyatt and Matthew (Carolyn) Badker; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Rochelle Hanisch of Sioux Falls; one brother, Charles (Penny) Badker of Menomonie, WI; numerous nieces and nephews along with the staff and friends at Deer Crest. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley on October 26, 2016 and one sister, Helen Hanisch.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the Church of St. Joseph. The service will be live-streamed on Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/mahnfamilyfuneralhome/videos/789133055940141 Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass. Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
