Joan Frances Heineman, 88, of Hager City, Wisc. died Sunday, November 5, 2023 at St. Benedictine Living Community in Red Wing.
She was born June 20, 1935 in Winona, Minn. to Joseph and Veronica “Verna” (Brom) Schade. She grew up in Dodge and attended rural schools before graduating from Winona High School. She turned down a college scholarship so she could marry Richard Heineman on November 13, 1953. The couple made their home in Red Wing where they had 3 children. In 1960 they moved to Hager City, Wisc. Joan worked for many places in the area, including the Red Wing Shoe, Erickson Grocery, and Goodhue Bank.
Joan loved to learn new things and was very interested in learning about natural health alternatives. She loved spending time in her flower garden. She was a strong woman who took care of, and held the family together, especially when Richard’s health began to fail. She was very proud of her family and cherished the time she spent surrounded by them.
She is survived by her three children, Cynthia Heineman of Osseo, WI, Linda Kolve of Bay City and Eugene Heineman of Bay City; six grandchildren, Jeremy Sarnstrom, Wesley Heineman, Kasey (Alicia) Kolve, Ryan Kolve, Heather (Matt) Traynor and Nique Heineman; five great grandchildren, Ian Sarnstrom, Keaton, Jett, Chase and Preslee Kolve; brother, John Schade of Hager City; as well as nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Richard, and her parents.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
