June Elaine Knutson was born October 4, 1950 in Zumbrota to Olaf Leonard and Evelyn Julia (Froyum) Knutson. She grew up on the family farm, enjoying pigs, cows, dogs, cats, and crop land. There were lots of activities with her siblings and parents, including back yard sports, playing cards, and music. Many of their activities centered around their home church, Lands Lutheran, in rural Zumbrota. There were also lots of enjoyable get-togethers with cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

June attended Zumbrota Public Schools, including elementary school in the wonderful old "castle" building that some may remember. She sang in choir and played French Horn in band, participating in All Star Band during Junior and Senior years. After graduating from Zumbrota High School in 1968, she attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, where she sang in the chapel choir and played softball in the early days of women's intercollegiate athletics. She majored in Physical Education and Health, graduating magna cum laude. After graduation from GAC, she taught Phy Ed and Health and coached the swim and gymnastics teams at Portland Junior High School in Bloomington, MN from 1972 to 1977.

On June 25, 1977, she married Dale Freiheit in Zumbrota. After renting a house in Zumbrota for two years, they built their home on Wedgewood Drive in Zumbrota in 1979 and have lived there since that time.

June did some substitute teaching, worked at Decora Cabinets in Zumbrota and at Rice County Social Services in Faribault before starting work with the United States Postal Service, first as a letter carrier in Zumbrota and then as a mail processor in Rochester (1984 to 2013). After retirement she worked for a short time at Commercial Water Distributing in Zumbrota, until receiving a diagnosis of non-hodgkins lymphoma in October 2014.

June was a member of Lands Lutheran Church her entire life. She was baptized by Pastor Harold Everson and was both confirmed and married by Pastor Alton Larsen. June was a member of the Stewardship Team, a member of the Praise Team (piano and vocals) and also served as Church Council Secretary and later as Church Council President. June enjoyed weaving, reading Kindle, coloring, playing piano, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

June is survived by her dear husband, Dale; brothers, John Knutson of Zumbrota, Gene (Carole) Knutson of Iowa City, Les (Linda) Knutson of Brooklyn Park, Lynn (Jane) Knutson of Madison, WI; her most special twin sister, Joan (Jim) Hoffman of Owatonna; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.
