Kenneth A. Cook, 83, formally of Pine Island, died of complications from the Covid-19 virus on Monday (January 4, 2021) in Sebring, Florida.
Kenneth Alan Cook was born April 16, 1937, in Cortland, NY. He grew up in central New York State, graduated from Homer (NY) High School in 1954 and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY). On June 23, 1955, he married Charlotte Sutton in Preble, NY. They lived in Glen Aubrey, NY, until moving to Pine Island in 1962. They were married 52 years when Charlotte passed away in 2007. In June 2011, Ken married Nancy Rhodes in Sebring, Florida. They lived seasonally in Minnesota and in Florida.
For 35 years, Ken worked as a technician and mechanical engineer at IBM in Endicott (NY) and Rochester, MN. He then owned a home improvement business for a number of years. He was a member of the Oasis Church in Rochester, where he had been a Deacon, boys youth leader, and member of the choir. He was involved in the Pine Island Lion’s Club, was active on the camp board and in volunteering at Camp Victory in Zumbro Falls. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, volunteering for many construction activities and piloting his Cessna.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; sister Janet Pfeifer (Dwight) of New Era, MI; four sons, Wesley (Elizabeth) of Stewartville, Wilson (Debra) of Cannon Falls, Walter (Jane) of Lake George, MN and Warren (Melanie) of Sidney, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and the Rhodes family: Susan of Tampa, FL, Brian (Sandra) of Tampa, FL, Scott (Wendy) of Woodruff, SC, Jonathon (Sonal) of Naperville, IL; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte.
Private burial will be at the Pine Island Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned later this year, once the Covid situation allows.
