Mary Elizabeth (Greene) Fitzgerald

Funeral services for Mary Fitzgerald will be held Saturday April 24th at 1:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester. The Rev. Elizabeth Macaulay will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, and burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Fitzgerald, 81, of Rochester, died Sunday April 18, 2021 at Meadow Lakes Senior Living.

Mary Elizabeth Greene was born March 13, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Jack and Esther Greene. A graduate of Greenville (Iowa) High School, she then attended business college. She worked at the Clothing Care Co. in Rochester, and it was there she met her husband, Gilford Fitzgerald. The couple married on April 10, 1965 at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester. Mary worked primarily as a bookkeeper for Olmsted County, and she held various positions over the years. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She had a longtime passion for sewing.

She is survived by her daughters and a son, Dawn (Mark) Head of Eden Prairie, Stacy (Deb) Fitzgerald of Rochester, and Michelle (Chris) Smiley also of Rochester; four grandchildren, Jacob Head, Matthew Smiley, Katelyn Fitzgerald, and Jack Fitzgerald; and a sister, Bettie Mills.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and eight siblings, Ruth Campbell, William Greene, Clarence Greene, Jack Greene, James Greene, Phyllis Frederici, Gary Greene, and Helen Youngbluth.

For those who are planning to attend the visitation and service, masking is required and social distancing practices are encouraged. If you are unable to attend, the funeral will be broadcast via live-streaming through Mahn Family Funeral Home’s Facebook page. The live-stream will begin a few minutes prior to the start of the service at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
