Mary Joan Stenson

Mary Joan Stenson, age 64, long term resident of Rochester passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

She was born in Hastings, MN August 3rd, 1956 to Harold and Bernadine (St. Marie) Stenson. Bernardine (Kimmes) Stepmother. She was raised along with her four siblings on the family farm located north of Hastings, MN.

She graduated from Hastings High School and then attended Winona State University and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. She spent the next 42 years working at the Mayo Clinic, primarily in lymphoma research.

She was an outdoor enthusiast including camping, hiking, golfing and skiing. She was a certified ski patroller and an instructor. She participated and enjoyed many trips with the local Rochester ski club.

Mary is survived by brother Steve (Michele) Stenson, sister Joni Stenson, sister Kay (Willie) Stenson, brother Pat Stenson; step-sister Jane (John) Wardell, step-brother George (Darla) Kimmes, step-sister Carol Kimmes, step-sister Mary Kimmes, step-brother Jack (Maureen) Kimmes, step-brother Jerry (Dawn) Kimmes; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and Step-mother.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 17 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home in Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Rochester, with Father John Sauer offciating. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service, at the church. A lunch will follow the service at the church. There will be a private interment held at a later date.
