Matthew J. Butler

Matthew James Butler passed away on January 16, 2023.  He was born on May 7, 1961, to Patrick and Mona (Richardson) Butler in Red Wing where he spent his entire life.  He was raised in rural Red Wing and attended Red Wing Schools.  Matt was always off on one adventure or another.  In his youth he enjoyed trail rides and breaking horses.  He was a member of the Hay Creek Valley Saddle Club for many years.  He loved hunting, fishing, motorcycling, RC cars, camping and swimming in the creek with family and friends.  He loved to stir up his nieces and nephews at every family gathering and always had a quick come back.  He was a tree trimmer and natural mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.  He is survived by his son, Nathan and significant other of 35 years, Lisa Balster; siblings, Diana (Larry) Dettmer, Janey (John) Fuchs and Fred Butler and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 28, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Frontenac Sportsman’s Club.
