Richard W. "Richie" Hinrichs

October 8, 1941 — May 20, 2019

Richard "Richie" W. Hinrichs, 77, of Zumbrota, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 20, 2019, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Richard was born to Reinhart and Iva (King) Hinrichs on October 8, 1941. He attended school in Zumbrota before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1959, during which he was stationed overseas in South Korea. On May 14, 1966, he married Sharon Fischer and together, raised 2 daughters. Richie worked as an auto mechanic in Zumbrota until his retirement in 2007, after which he eventually returned to work part-time delivering auto parts.

In his spare time, Richie was an avid gun collector and had a vast knowledge of antique and military rifles in particular. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching old western movies and shows, and spending time with his family.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon; children, Sheila Schutz and Kimberly (Adam) Murphy; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as 2 brothers, Jerry (Barb) Hinrichs and Roger Hinrichs.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 24, 2019, at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 West 3rd Street in Zumbrota with Reverend Dr. Margaret J. Pleiss-Sippola officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Zumbrota Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727.

Arrangements were with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
