Obituary

Robert Lloyd Henning, age 86, of Lake City, Minnesota died on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 9, 1935, to Lloyd and Dorothy (Kelly) Henning at their home in  Mount Pleasant Township, Lake City, Minnesota. He attended Belvidere School.

Robert was in the Army Reserves, National Guard, from March 8, 1954, until September 18 1955. He went into the United States Army Reserves at the rank of Army Private 1st Class and was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana where he provided support for the Bay of Pigs Invasion into Cuba. Robert was also deployed to Munich, Germany, during the Berlin Crisis and was in the 4th Armor Medical Infantry. After his service, he was discharged into the 544th Reserve in Wabasha, Minnesota. Robert worked at Federal Mogul for 37 ½ years and retired in July 1998. He was a member of the Wabasha American Legion for 20 years and a lifetime Member of the Lake City Sportsman’s Club. On December 30, 1958, he married Virginia Plank. They had 3 children, Linda, Bonnie, and Richard. Virginia passed away on January 5, 1970. Robert married Sharon Plank, his best friend and camping partner, on October 12, 1974. They had 4 children, Linda, Bonnie, Richard and Bobbi.

Robert is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 47 years, Sharon; his 4 children, Linda (Tom) Kehren, Bonnie Buck, Richard (Jowelle) Henning, and Bobbi (Josh) Lutjen; 10 grandchildren, Heather (Brad) Scheidt, Stephanie (Corey) Adams, Joe (Becky) Buck, Alex and Cody Buck, Katie (Cody) Fierst, Samantha Henning, Diedre, Corbin and Carter Lutjen; 7 great-grandchildren, Mason and Spencer Scheidt, Tessa and Benson Adams, Ivy and Ava Buck, and Charlotte Fierst; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Susan Plank and their family; 3 sister, Delaine Raasch, Georganna (Bob) Gillenwater, and June (Gary) Nord; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; his parents, Lloyd and Dorothy Henning; two sisters, Mary and Kathy; brother-in-law, Ed Raasch and nephew Dan Raasch.

Bob loved camping and fishing, with his wife and best friend Sharon, as well as listening to good old country music- especially Merle Haggard. Most of all, Robert loved spending time with his family.

Pallbearers include Ron Plank, special brother-in-law, and Dan Johnson, dear friend. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert will be escorted to his final resting place by his son, Richard, as well as his pall bearers, Ron Plank and Dan Johnson in the family’s 1964 Chevrolet Impala. The graveside service, with military honors by VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110, will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City, with Pastor Nathan Cordes officiating on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 2 P.M. A Celebration of Bob’s life will take place following the graveside service at the home of Bobbi and Josh Lutjen at 68772 345th Ave, Lake City following the service until 6 P.M.
