Hager City

Roger Lee Studeny, 75, of Hager City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at his home.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine, Nebraska.  A lunch will follow at the St. Nicholas Church in Valentine.

He was born on April 18, 1948, in Valentine, Nebraska to Henry and Doris (Hutchison) Studeny.  He graduated in 1966, from Valentine High School.  Before moving to Red Wing in 1971, he drove truck with his brother Henry, worked road construction in Cherry County, Nebraska and was employed at Weston Oil Company in Valentine.  On May 17, 1972, he was united in marriage to Doris Spracklen in Mitchell South Dakota.  They were blessed with three children, John, Sarah and Ivy.  For a number of years, he drove truck for Knutson Trucking, Armour, Co.  Buesing Bulk Transport and Rosen Metals.  For the past 26 years he has drove for Hager City Express, where he received an award for 6 million miles driven accident free.  Roger was a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing, Knights of Columbus and the National Rifle Association.  He enjoyed reading, and watching John Wayne movies, collecting key chains, hunting knives and caps.  He loved the outdoors and hunting out West.   Family vacations were all always a special time, but most of all he enjoyed being with Doris, his children and grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Doris of 51 years; three children, John (Son) Studeny, Sarah (Kyle) Roach and Ivy (David) Conrad; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Alan Studeny; 2 sisters, Doris Beth (Doug) Newland and Priscilla Aase and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry, Jr.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Brandon Theisen presiding.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at the church.  Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
