Wanda Ellen Steffens,89, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
She was born on October 31, 1931, on the family farm in rural Millville, in Wabasha County to Clarence W. and Ellen M. (Wiese) Goertz. In November 1931, she was baptized by Reverend Julius Lentz at Bremen Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. On May 19, 1946 she was confirmed at Potsdam Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elgin by Rev. George Scheitel. She attended Breman and Potsdam country grade schools and Plainview High School.
On September 21, 1950 she was united in marriage to Arnold W. Steffens at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zumbrota by Rev. Paul Horn. Wanda was employed as a waitress, factory worker at Waters Conley (Telex) from 1958-1968 in Rochester. She also worked as a cook for Zumbrota Community Hospital and later the Zumbrota Nursing Home until her retirement in 1996.
Wanda enjoyed doing volunteer work, playing cards, traveling, gardening, bowling, garage sales and attending auctions. She especially enjoyed being with family and friends and attending her grandchildren's activities. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served on ladies aid committees.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bill) Eberhart of Zumbrota, Debora (Robert) Paulson of Fairbault; son Ronald (Julie) Steffens of Iowa; grandchildren: Scott Ellingson, Kimberly (Mike) Burke, Kieth Ellingson (Debbie Kiyono), Karen (Steve) Wetzstein, Tanya (Craig) Sammon; great-grandchildren: Adam Ellingson, Christopher Herold, Shelby Herold, Ryan Wetzstein, Riley Sammon, Morgan Sammon, Haley Ellingson, Kayla Kiyono-Ellingson, Ty Kiyono-Ellingson; sisters, LouAnn (Richard) Holderman and Virginia Pahl.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, Clarence Sr. and Ellen Goertz, her husband, Arnold Steffens, sisters Velma and Geraldine Goertz and brothers Clarence Goertz, Jr. and William Goertz.
A memorial service is being held on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 11:00 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, burial will follow at the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Social distancing and wearing a mask is expected.
